Blue Boy of the North Atlantic - Octopus on Antique Nautical Chart Gyotako Style
Located in Chicago, IL
A small octopus is inked in the Japanese style of Gyo-Taku print making. Using sumi ink to "print" the octopus, the artist then embellishes it with colored pencil to convey an extraordinary dimensionality. By printing it on a nautical chart, in this case a pilot chart of the Northern Atlantic Ocean from 1945, the artist achieves a beautiful aesthetic. The artwork is unframed. Please contact the gallery for framing options. This tradition dates back to the mid-1800s and was used by fishermen to record their catches, but has also become an art form of its own. Prints were made using Sumi ink and Washi paper. It is rumored that Samurai would settle fishing competitions using Gyotaku prints...

Located in Soquel, CA
"Natalie's" - Plein Aire Pastoral Landscape in Pastel on Sandpaper Serene plein aire landscape with cows by Clive R. Tyler (American, b. 1958). This composition depicts a farm in Fort Collins, Colorado, with a large white barn at the top of the hill. There are several cows grazing in a bright green pasture. A partially broken fence is directly in front of the viewer - a symbol of the artist's desire to portray the realism of the scene, including imperfections. This piece is executed on sandpaper, a trademark of Tyler's work. Signed "CL Tyler" in the lower left corner Signed, notated, titled, and dated on verso (see photo). Israeli Modernist Textured Painting on Cast Paper Sheep
Located in Surfside, FL
A highly textured unique artwork by israeli master Menashe Kadishman Menashe Kadishman was born in Tel-Aviv in 1932. He is a Graduate of St. Martin's School of Art, University of London. From 1947 to 1950, Kadishman studied with the Israeli sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London, where he remained until 1972. He had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style and so designed as to appear to defy gravity. This was achieved either through careful balance and construction, as in Suspense (1966), or by using glass and metal so that the metal appeared unsupported, as in Segments (1968). In 1995, he began painting portraits of sheep. These instantly-recognizable sheep portraits...
