About the Item

Amate Bark Painting - Harvest Dance with Giant Rabbits In this scene, people are carrying baskets to the village, through dense foliage. There are large rabbit-like creatures throughout the composition. Amate paper is a type of bark paper which was commonly used during the Aztec empire. Its production was banned following Spanish colonization, although its creation and use still persisted. The use of Amate for painting and other art saw a revitalization during the mid-20th century, particularly among the Nahua and Otomi indigenous peoples. Unsigned, but acquired with other pieces by Manuel Remigio Presented in a bronze colored frame. Frame size: 17.25"H x 23.25"W Image size: 15.75"H x 22.5"W
