About the Item
Marius de Zayas was born in Veracruz, Mexico and emigrated to New York with his family in 1907. He joined the art staff of the New York Evening World newspaper and quickly became known for his striking portraits and caricatures of celebrities. This work ran in Puck magazine interior illustration. Signed lower right
This original drawing was published in the Evening World and were part of his Soirés of Paris series that he began in 1914. In 1923 de Zayas moved to Europe and spent the remainder of his life in France.
Work as become tan with age and Wear and markings in keeping with illustration and publishing process.
