About the Item
Costume dell'Isola di Procida is an enchanting watercolour on ivory colored paper made by the artist Michela De Vito in 1820 ca., representing the Province of Naples.
Hand-titled in black ink on the lower margin. Very good conditions, with usual burnished paper on the margins and some light stains.
This original old master artwork represents a woman wearing typical Procida costumes and holding her baby.
Very nice watercolour artwork, enchaning for both its subject matter and the artist's draftmanship.
Michela De Vito
In the XIX century, Michela De Vito native of Abruzzi, worked in Naples and became a famous artist. She was maybe the daughter or sister of Camillo de Vito, a reknown painter of guaches above all of views and scenes of everyday life. Sometimes she is mistaken with Michele de Vito. “A refined painter, very skilled when it came to drawings, she had the characteristic to make her subject more gentle, compared to her male collegues"; this is how De Rosa and Trastulli describe her.
