About the Item

"Feel the Beat" is a dynamic artwork features three figures caught in a moment of rhythmic movement, exuding an ethereal energy. Each figure is rendered in a monochromatic palette, enhancing the play of light and shadow across their flowing garments, which appear almost like zebra stripes. The composition captures a sense of fluidity and motion, as the figures dance with abandon amidst swirling clouds of mist or smoke. Their hair, tossed by an unseen force, adds to the sensation of freedom and exuberance. The artist’s technique of blending soft edges with more defined lines creates a dreamlike quality, drawing the viewer into the scene’s mysterious dance. The work’s striking contrast and the implied unity of the dancers emphasize themes of liberation and the transcendent power of movement. "Feel the Beat" is offered with a custom white box wood frame, all archival materials, and comes ready to hang. Scottish artist Patsy McArthur explores the grace and power of human movement in her naturalistic drawings and paintings. Her latest works, including small ink studies, charcoal and graphite drawings, and large oil paintings, convey a palpable sense of strength and athleticism, while also evoking a transcendent quality in the depiction of the human form in various states of suspension, from leaping and soaring, to flying and falling. Above all, a feeling of freedom is carried throughout. The artist studied painting in Aberdeen in the northeast of Scotland at the Gray's School of Art, where she received an Honors B.A. in Fine Art. She was awarded the Royal Scottish Academy John Kinross Scholarship to study abroad in Florence. In 2001, McArthur completed her M.A. in European Fine Art from the Winchester School of Art in Barcelona. McArthur has lived and worked in Australia, Spain, China, Berlin and New York and is currently based in Brighton, UK. This multinational perspective is reflected in her work by her striking ability to capture the universality of human emotion.
