Highly talented Sunil Das has done shows all across the world, got fame as early as while he was still in college, youngest recipient of the Lalit Kala Academy Awards and received a scholarship to study at L’Ecole Nationale Superior des Beaux arts, Paris. Sunil Das's very early works consist of watercolors. Done as lesson practice when he was a student at the art college, they display his free and fluent execution in academic style painting. “There are painters who transform the Sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who, with the help of their art and intelligence, transform a yellow spot into Sun" - Pablo Picasso. Sunil Das was exactly one such artist. Style : Sunil Das' style of work is very original and shows no specific influence. He had risen to fame like MF Hussain with his famous paintings of horses, to the extent that he was nicknamed 'Ghora Das' (Hindi which means Horse Das). Like Hussain, Sunil Das was inspired by the force and strength of the moving horse. The horses and the bull (inspired from his visit to Spain and witnessing the Bull Fighting) have appeared more than 7000 times in Das’s works. He has otherwise painted haunting pictures of women thereby revealing the dark side of people who are otherwise considered beautiful. His works on the Red Light of Kolkata, was also much lauded and brings about an important social message through his works. Das's main mediums could easily be Oil on Canvas, His Stimulating and Stirring works in Mixed Media, Conte, Charcoal, Serigraphy, Wood Works and Sculptures. Whatever medium he worked on, he effortlessly mastered. Not one to be stuck to one style, Das experimented and worked on various series and mediums. His works involves the quick use of the brush and pen to create master pieces that have a dynamic effect, potent with power. About the Artist and his work : Sunil Das : (1939 - 2015 ) Calcutta . Old Kolkata, Watercolour on Paper by Contemporary Artist 'In Stock'
By Saikat Maity
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Saikat Maity - Old Kolkata - 14 x 16 inches (Unframed Size) Watercolour on Paper Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works. The artist has selected the iconic landmark of Kolkata city, during the peak of the British Empire in India. This ethereal scene with the Heritage Building and motor cab is captivating and encapsulates the character of the heritage city with drama and poise. The watercolor artist has avoided excessive detailing and by highlighting just the key features of a Heritage Building & Old Kolkata Streets with crumbling structures, results in a fresh, inviting composition. Style : Saikat does his painting in stages, starting with large, vague color areas established on wet paper, then refines the image through a sequence of washes and glazes, making the works as durable as oils or acrylics. The pigments are held by arabic gum with additives like glycerine and solvents that give the medium durability. Watercolors appear more vivid than acrylics or oils because the pigments are laid down in a more pure form with fewer fillers obscuring the pigment colors. Multiple layers of watercolor thus achieve a very luminous effect. Water being an active and complex partner in the watercolor painting process, it changes the outlines and appearance of the paint as it dries. Saikat has mastered the difficult art of anticipating and leveraging the behavior of water, rather than attempting to control it. Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works, definitely worth collecting. In my watercolour paintings, the beauty lies in the freshness of colours, their transparency and purity along with a slightly unfinished look resulting in a more natural effect. My watercolours try infusing life in common place objects and making them look spectacularly real. About the Artist & his art works : Born : 1981. Education : 2007 : B.V.A (Drawing & Painting ) from Indian College of Art & Draftsmanship in Kolkata with 1st Class. Group Shows : Saikat has exhibited his paintings in group shows across Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai. Awards & Recognition : 2007 - Best Water...

India Watercolour RCA Architect Painting Palace Udaipur Lake Travel Orange Blues
Located in Norfolk, GB
There is something compelling about drawings and sketches made by architects. Loose and full of life this delicious little study, made on the spot, beautifully captures the essence of place. Made during one of Patterson's early tours to India it shows the gloriously majestic Palace Museum in Udaipur, Rajasthan, which sits on the highest point overlooking Lake Pichola and the City. The delicate wash of terracottas, pinks and reds offers us the feel of sun on the old stones. "Lahore Night market". Contemporary Figurative Watercolour Painting
Located in Brecon, Powys
Very atmospheric night scene of Lahore. painted circa 2003 Watercolour and partel on paper. well framed Framed 26.5" x 34.5". Image 21" x 29" Signed and titled verso Throughout the 1990s Robert Macdonald lived in an isolated cottage with no road access high in the hills overlooking the Usk Valley. His work became a meditation on the landscape, the farming life and also the legends of the Brecon Beacons area. Three years ago he became the first elected president of the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales and he is a past chair of the Welsh Group, the senior association of artists in Wales, and a director of the Swansea Print Workshop. Before coming to Brecon he worked and painted for many years in London and his move to Wales, prompted by his Welsh-born wife Annie, was in a way a return to his own rural roots. Born in 1935, much of his early life was spent in rural communities, not in Wales but as a war-time evacuee on Somerset farms and, from the age of 10, in the New Zealand back country. His family emigrated to New Zealand in 1945 and lived on the Northland Peninsula where there was a considerable Maori presence. Maori carving...
