About the Item
Contemporary expressionist pastel on paper of a Provençal landscape titled 'Cancan a' by Dutch artist Bernadette Van Baarsen. Signed and dated to the bottom right and presented in wood frame. The painting is sandwiched between two panes of glass without a backboard. The painting comes with a certificate of authenticity from the artist.
One of a new series of exciting, colourful, innovative and expressive works offering views of the landscape of Provence. Bernadette has taken and amplified the beautiful light in this wonderful part of the world breaking it down into its myriad components resulting in an explosion of colour. This is Provence in the evening light of mid summer. From the wild, rocky "garrigue" in the foreground a climbing path leads the eye through the centre of the painting passing an olive and a grouping of cypress trees finishing at the almost fiery evening sky as the sun begins to set. Parts of the painting are almost aflame and colours cleverly juxtaposed, reign supreme.
This artwork presents a vivid landscape, expertly capturing the essence of a dreamlike terrain. Dominated by rich, layered hues of green and gold, the scene conveys movement through swirling brushstrokes, depicting trees and a winding path. The composition draws the viewer's eye towards the horizon, where the sky transitions from a warm yellow to a cool blue, suggesting a dynamic and ever-changing environment. The central cluster of coniferous trees stands distinct, their pointed forms contrasting with the fluidity surrounding them. The artist's use of bold lines and vibrant color transitions conveys a sense of both chaos and harmony. Encased in a simple wooden frame, the piece invites interpretation and introspection, as it combines elements of the natural world with an abstract, surreal twist, creating a mesmerizing visual experience.
