A simplistic watercolour scene with pencil detail attributed to Henry Birtles RA (1838-1907), depicting a small group of cattle drinking from a river, in a vast open landscape. A parent and child can be seen in the centre of the composition mounted on top a docile cow, glancing over the rest of the herd. The watercolour is signed in graphite to the lower right-hand corner. Well presented in a handsome gilt frame with bead course, fluted cove and moulded cross motifs to the outer border. Glazed. On paper.
