About the Item

Old city. 1965. Paper, watercolor, 64x50 cm Colorful watercolor painting. Old town view Malda Muižule was born in 1937 in the family of a blacksmith. Graduated from Liepāja Applied Arts High School (1957). She continued her studies at the Department of Printmaking of the Latvian Academy of Arts, which she graduated in 1963 with a diploma thesis - etching "Rojas zvejnieki", thesis supervisor A. Apinis. Participates in exhibitions since 1963. Member of the Union of Artists since 1966. One of the most prominent etching masters in Latvia. Freely manages the etching technique in all its complexity, creates compositions directly on the metal plate. In the beginning, she worked in more linear etching technique ("Kuldīga", "Vecā Rīga", both 1967), but in the early 1970s, she was one of the first Latvian printmaking artists who began to intensively realize the specific possibilities of graphics in the use of color in complex multi-step etching, cultivating the variety of textures and colors. In the etchings of the 1980s, the intensity of color and the multiplicity of imagery increase, a deeper synthesis of ethnographic and world cultural impressions enters, the revelation of human feelings and natural processes in a unified artistic image becomes more complex. She has also developed the printing principles of the use of colors in the lithography technique. She has worked a lot in the watercolor technique, where the fragility of the drawing is combined with bright colors, great looseness of color. Also painted in oil technique. Worked in press and book graphics. Made cartoons, posters, artistic bookmarks.

Town - China Ink and Watercolor - 1959
Located in Roma, IT
Town is a beautiful original painting (China ink and watercolor) on paper, realized in 1959 by the Italian artist Enrico Paolucci. Signed and dated in pencil on lower right margin. A joyful urban landscape realized with a naif style, the typical Paolucci's style, and a very rapid watercolored painting. In excellent condition, except for minor defect on the edges. Enrico Paulucci born Paolucci Delle Roncole (Genoa, 1901 - Turin, 1999) The Italian painter, Enrico Paulucci is remembered as a member of the Group of Six of Turin. In the years 1927-1928 he began to attend the most famous painters of the Turin area and became friends with Felice Casorati, and then with Lionello Venturi and Edoardo Persico. In 1928 he moved to Paris, where he deepened his knowledge of French painting, from Impressionism onwards, and became interested in the work of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, and Georges Braque. Old Kolkata, Watercolour on Paper by Contemporary Artist 'In Stock'
By Saikat Maity
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Saikat Maity - Old Kolkata - 14 x 16 inches (Unframed Size) Watercolour on Paper Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works. The artist has selected the iconic landmark of Kolkata city, during the peak of the British Empire in India. This ethereal scene with the Heritage Building and motor cab is captivating and encapsulates the character of the heritage city with drama and poise. The watercolor artist has avoided excessive detailing and by highlighting just the key features of a Heritage Building & Old Kolkata Streets with crumbling structures, results in a fresh, inviting composition. Style : Saikat does his painting in stages, starting with large, vague color areas established on wet paper, then refines the image through a sequence of washes and glazes, making the works as durable as oils or acrylics. The pigments are held by arabic gum with additives like glycerine and solvents that give the medium durability. Watercolors appear more vivid than acrylics or oils because the pigments are laid down in a more pure form with fewer fillers obscuring the pigment colors. Multiple layers of watercolor thus achieve a very luminous effect. Water being an active and complex partner in the watercolor painting process, it changes the outlines and appearance of the paint as it dries. Saikat has mastered the difficult art of anticipating and leveraging the behavior of water, rather than attempting to control it. Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works, definitely worth collecting. In my watercolour paintings, the beauty lies in the freshness of colours, their transparency and purity along with a slightly unfinished look resulting in a more natural effect. My watercolours try infusing life in common place objects and making them look spectacularly real. About the Artist & his art works : Born : 1981. Education : 2007 : B.V.A (Drawing & Painting ) from Indian College of Art & Draftsmanship in Kolkata with 1st Class. Group Shows : Saikat has exhibited his paintings in group shows across Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai. Awards & Recognition : 2007 - Best Water...
