Melissa Kircher is a painter and illustrator who enjoys everything bold and beautiful. She works with acrylics, watercolor, and ink to create pieces that invoke her deep love of nature and the human spirit. Kircher graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts from Gordon College. Her work has been exhibited in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York City, as well as residing in private collections around the United States. She has also authored and illustrated a children’s picture book, The Endless Story: Explaining Life and Death to Children. Kircher lives and works in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
“I’ve always been drawn to strong lines and bright colors; the way that color and form merge into a connection with the artist and viewer," Melissa says. "I believe we can all have eyes that are open and ears that are awake to the thrumming life around us. I see art as a way of expressing that resonance.”

Three Pyramids + Blue Ball
By Alexander Calder
Located in Palm Desert, CA
"Three Pyramids + Blue Ball" is a gouache on paper by Alexander Calder. The work is signed in the lower right, "Calder 73”.
Although renowned for his innovative and groundbreaking sculptures, Alexander Calder started his artistic career as an abstract painter, preferring to use gouache. What is gouache? Gouache is a water-soluble paint – a type of opaque watercolor.
As Calder returned to gouache painting towards the end of his life, he was now armed with a lifetime of experience as a sculptor. He explored the three-dimensional vocabulary of sculptural forms he had developed onto the two-dimensional surface of the paper. Certain shapes and colors recur throughout his gouaches and sculptures. Circles, ovals, and other geometric forms dominate the space. There is the same sense of energy and fluidity. Purple Haze (Glyph)
By Christina McPhee
Located in New York, NY
Purple Haze (Glyph), 2012
ink, watercolor, colored pencil, marker ink and fluid ink on synthetic paper
25 x 38 inches / 635 x 965 mm
Christina McPhee’s expansive abstract paintings, drawings, photographs, and videos test or query how can we know, and who is we? Moving from within a matrix of measurement, observation and contingent effects, her work resists characterization as product, and continually accesses fields outside itself. For her, process equals trial. Her work emulates potential forms of life, in various systems and territories, from a perspective of the non-self– a world beyond identity.
McPhee’s dynamic, performative, physical engagement with materials, in both her analogue and digital works, is a seduction into surface-skidding calligraphic gestures and mark-making. The tactics of living are in subterfuge, like the ‘dazzle ships...
