About the Item

Ogden Minton Pleissner is known for his landscapes of the American West, as well as images of the Canadian Maritimes and New England. Growing up, Pleissner spent summers in Wyoming where he developed a life-long love of the outdoors and drawing landscape. At the start of World War II, commissioned as a captain in the Air Force, Pleissner served as a war artist in the Aleutian Islands, and by 1942 was a war correspondent for Life magazine. After the war, he turned to painting city- and landscapes and sporting events. "Summit of Montmartre" was included in an exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in the Spring of 1949. It was also featured in the 1949 Baltimore National Water Color Exhibition.
