About the Item
Original oil pastel and gouache figure drawing by celebrated, twentieth-century California landscape painter, Ronald Shap. Vibrant sketch of sitting nude woman with washes of blue, green and yellow. 17.5x22.5 inches on glossy paper. Signed.
This piece is a part of Shap's '80s Interiors Collection, a vibrant New Wave series of nudes and still lifes rendered in neon or pastel colors painted between 1981 and 1989. His erotic and sometimes grotesque nudes are reminiscent of Egon Schiele, and the Miami Vice / Memphis Design pastel trend that dominated the 1980s art world can be clearly seen in his still lifes.
Stray marks throughout, made during the creative process. We do not consider these flaws, just a natural result of use of this medium, but please inspect images thoroughly. Paper is high gloss white - any graying of the white background is due to our imperfect photography skills.
Ronald Shap was born in Toledo, OH and lived most of his life in California. Ron was a scholarship award graduate at the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1964 and completed graduate study in painting at the University of Nebraska and Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1967. He was a visiting artist and instructor at BGSU in 1973-74 and worked out of his Los Angeles studio and taught drawing and anatomy at Citrus College until his retirement in 2005.

Ronald Shap was born in Toledo, OH and lived most of his life in California. The brother of acclaimed portrait artist Sylvia Shap, he was a scholarship award graduate at the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1964 and completed graduate study in painting at the University of Nebraska and Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1967. He was a visiting artist and instructor at BGSU in 1973-74 and worked out of his Los Angeles studio and taught drawing and anatomy at Citrus College until his retirement in 2005.

'Modern Dancers', pastel, ink and gouache on fine art paper by French artist, singer and sculptor, Mick Micheyl (1964). Two elegant young men are depicted in a graceful dancing pose, arms outstretched, their lithe bodies so agile and limber. Perhaps one of the dancers was her friend, Philippe, to whom the painting is dedicated on the bottom. The dedication says: 'For you Philippe, all my friendship'. Signed: 'Mick Micheyl'. The work has been newly framed and glazed after having been acquired in the S. of France. It is in fair vintage condition commensurate with age showing minor blemishing on the paper. Upon request a video of the piece can be provided.

About the Artist: Mick Micheyl (1922 - 2019) was born in Lyon and had a busy and rewarding artistic career as a singer, producer, reviewer, metal sculptor, artist. After having received training at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon she became a painter and decorator in the theatre but then commenced a career in the musical activities of a theatrical troupe. She won the ABC competition in Paris in 1949 with a song, Le Marchand de Poésie, which she composed herself. She then performed in many cabarets: L'Échelle de Jacob, Harlequin and Liberty's. In the 1950s she was one of the most important French cabaret singers of that period. One of her titles, 'Un Gamin de Paris', became one of the French standards and also performed by Yves Montand and Robert Clary...
