About the Item
Questo disegno (matita su carta 37,5 x 24 cm) su carta vergellata orizzontale con doppia filigrana ( giglio coronato di Strasburgo e cartiglio con il monogramma CM) è uno studio accademico basato su un soggetto dall'antico.
In grafia moderna a matita compare due volte il numero 79 possibile riferimento ad un precedente inventario mentre vicino ai piedi della figura maschile, sul retro, compare il monogramma RM probabilmente le iniziali dell'artista.
Le due figure sono ispirate alla mitologia greco romana.
In particolare, nella figura femminile con il peplo può essere riconosciuta Artemide/Diana, divinità della caccia, in quanto porta i suoi attributi (l'arco e la mezzaluna sulla fronte).
La figura maschile nuda, invece, potrebbe essere interpretabile come un'eroe o come il di lei fratello Apollo. In particolare, l'Apollo citaredo viene spesso raffigurato nudo e seduto e lo studio del braccio con il ripensamento e conseguente cambiamento della posizione potrebbe essere legato all'aggiunta della cetra.
Da notare che sul fronte sono presenti entrambi le figure a matita e penna a punta sottile, sul retro invece appare solo la figura maschile con il braccio piegato con inchiostro di maggior spessore.
Per lo stile e per la filigrana può essere associato a un artista di area francese o ad un artista italiano che ha avuto contatti oltralpe.
