About the Item
'Infanta Madre Tierra (Mother Earth)' features the face of a young woman with flora motif (top) and series of birds and flora motif (bottom) representing life, death and the struggles in between. Intricately patterned and complex graphite drawing on Kent paper. The original drawing, 16 1/4 x 12 inches, comes from Japanese artist Chikako Okada. Framed in a museum quality walnut frame, 20.75 x 16.5 inches. Beautiful on its own or hanging with other drawings from Okada's artist. Signed, titled, dated Verso. Condition is excellent. / as new The original graphite drawings, like Okada's oil paintings, are provocative, alluring, haunting and beautiful.
Chikako Okada’s autobiographical works of art bridge traditional realism with magical realism and surrealism. The artist uniquely addresses questions of the human condition through her meticulously detailed, and patterned imagery. The mesmerizing work is rich in symbolism and references feminine power, vulnerability, sadness, longing, and desire. Often featuring adolescent girls and boys that are mysteriously posed, the artist leaves the circumstances of her subjects to the viewer's interpretation. Chikako Okada is inspired by the paintings of European masters, Mexico's Frida Kahlo, and the American surrealists.
Educated in Japan and the United States. Okada received her BS and MFA at San Francisco's Art Institute (SFAI). She has exhibited internationally over a 30-year period. Her paintings and drawings are collected worldwide.
