About the Item
Alexandra Rozenman's "Loving Abstraction" is a 9 x 12 inch contemporary collage on paper. This mixed media collage was created during COVID in Virginia, when she lost her studio and asked other artists to mail her leftovers from their work to use for art materials. The image is a striking collage featuring two stylized figures in bold black shapes leaning intimately against each other, with one cradling a pop of yellow. The background, an earthy palette of light brown walls, showcases various abstract artworks in contrasting soft pastels and fluid shapes. A circular form on the right adds balance and visual interest. The piece celebrates companionship and artistic expression, using diverse patterns and colors to symbolize connection amid creativity and individuality, enhancing the scene's emotional depth.
Alexandra Rozenman immigrated to America from the Soviet Union in 1989. Russian, European and American myths of national destiny and private identity take on a utopian dimension as she absorbs and expresses the psychology of otherness as fundamental aspects of her own identity. She wants her art to be like a well-worn military wool blanket that gives you warmth, love, and history. The artist states. Whatever degree of abstraction defines my thinking and visual self-identification it has all to do with the search for my own image in a great existential sea of sweeping change. Rozenman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.
