About the Item

Inspired by William Blake's poem "The Angel" Exhibited in Milan (Italy) in 2005. Part of a series o 10 Exclusively on 1stdibs measures are referred to the painting. Passepartout is 50x35cm I Dreamt a Dream! What can it mean? And that I was a maiden Queen, Guarded by an Angel mild: Witless woe was ne’er beguil’d! And I wept both night and day, And he wip’d my tears away, And I wept both day and night, And hid from him my heart’s delight. So he took his wings and fled; Then the morn blush’d rosy red; I dried my tears, & arm’d my fears With ten thousand shields and spears. Soon my Angel came again: I was arm’d, he came in vain; For the time of youth was fled, And grey hairs were on my head. William Blake –(The Angel) These paintings on Windsor & Newton paper are rich in colors and details.

Though the night was made for loving, And the day returns too soon, Yet we’ll go no more a roving By the light of the moon...

To whose immortal eyes The sufferings of mortality, Seen in their sad reality, were nota s things that gods despise; What was thy pity’s recompense? A silent suffering, and intense; The rock, the vulture, and the chain, All that proud can feel of pain, The agony they do not show, The suffocating sense of woe, Which speaks but in its loneliness, And then is jealous lest the sky Should have a listener, nor will sigh Until its voice is echoless.
