About the Item
"Murs d'equilibrisme" is one of my works of my serie "En LLuita". Nature gives me sharp flowers that come up as feminine figures. That's where the photos of my witches come from. In every small petal I see a shape, a female movement. I see witches and amazons. I am a woman and I want to be a witch and an amazon. Being a fighter. Being a strong and autonomous woman. Living with no fear nor submission. And the little petals grow in my photographs, and I draw and paint on them, thinking about how much them women had to fight. Imagining them empowered and free, struggling to be themselves. About the Artist
Born in Venezuela, Yelitza Diaz;s life has been wrapped in the arts since childhood. She founded a gallery with her husband, who is also an artist, and was successful for many years until the crime and corruption in the local government became unbearable. They now live in South Carolina, where she makes art that explores human existentialism and the political and social developments of her native country. Her sculptures are made with ceramic techniques using a minimalist contemporary style. Fun fact: Yelitza designed the town seal for her native Municipio Falc;n in Venezuela.
