About the Item

Artist Comments
This piece is made by layering Korean mulberry paper on a wooden panel with homemade flour glue. Then I apply a glue base. Next, I draw my sketch, and trace it on the paper. Then I paint three or four layers of a background color using pigments and glue base. Lastly, I paint the subject in fine detail, which takes most of time. The painting is on a cradled wood panel with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

About the Artist
Heejin has been been drawing for as long as she can remember. She grew up with a serious illness and spent much of her childhood in the hospital. Drawing served as an outlet for her, bringing her peace and distraction. Heejin says there was no doubt as she grew up that she wanted to be an artist. She studied oriental painting extensively as a college student in South Korea and then went on to study art therapy in graduate school.

Peapod
By Melinda Hackett
Located in New Orleans, LA
Hackett’s paintings defy popular convention. They are not figurative, decorative, representative, or even completely abstract. While it is hard to tie them to any one style or movement, they manage to be a part of all of them. Hackett’s work is influenced by pattern, midcentury design, art of indigenous peoples, and the art and craft movement, combined with a loose examination of the natural world. She creates a visual environment that is both recognizable yet strangely mysterious. While steeped in art history and influenced by a range of artists from Miro to Arthur Dove, Charles Burchfield, Agnes Pelton, Florine Stettheimer Sonia Delaunay and Hilma af Klimt...

Bellied Bean, A Morning Green
Located in Rockville, MD
This painting captures the beauty and serenity of a verdant scene in an early morning. At the center of the canvas, a plump bean rest. Meanwhile its contours, being chaotic but inviting, are rendered with sweeping shape and lines, evoking a feeling of jerking. The texture-seal technique creates a surrounding foliage heave and turn, symbolizing a vast potential for growth and switch. The Zen calligraphic freehand brush-strokes highlight a sense of energy and vitality, reminding of an intricate inter-connectedness between agents of transient flow and change. From 2022 to 2023, Cymn extended a soul karma in her Washington saloon that spearheads to create a masterful suited style of American ethos. The ethos showcases an accomplishment in self-realization of aesthetic views of both Eastern and Western cultures. Wong attempts to vitalize certain built-in imageries and present the visual world via a dynamic interaction for human passion with the environment and the universe. In retrospect about the reciprocity between poetry and art, Cymn’s artistic attainments are expanding into a vivid oasis that she has been stimulated in an international platform. Three turning points of creativity for Cymn Wong...
