Sustainability has become the main drive behind the work I create, to make something unique out of what would otherwise be waste. Tens of thousands of shells are used on average per day, per shooting school across the whole of the UK. Due to the cost and lengthy procedure of separating the plastic from the metal, the spent shells are usually burnt, or put into landfill.
rey captures a breathtaking moment of nature in motion — a Gyr Falcon in mid-flight as it homes in on its prey, a duck in full escape. This powerful composition is constructed entirely from upcycled shotgun shell casings, a striking juxtaposition of man-made ammunition and the natural cycle of predator and prey.
Each meticulously placed casing forms the intricate feathers and flight dynamics of the two birds, with subtle gradients of brass, ivory, and black shells giving life to the wings and motion. The result is a masterwork that confronts the viewer with themes of survival, beauty, and consequence.
