Juana Martínez
(Tlalpujajua, Michoacán, 1953) Lives and works in Tlalpujahua, Michoacán.
Her first exhibition took at galería nina menocal in April, 2017 was a roaring success! Juana lives in an isolated cabin in the middle of nowhere, the mountainous region of Northeastern Michoacán. Collecting paper scraps and other recycled materials, she began doing artworks “from what comes within” in 2006; in 2013 she left her job as a nanny in Mexico City and returned the mountains.
Juana’s work has since been dedicated to visual fields that evoke interior landscapes and a recreation of nature. A descendant of farmers, she is a phenomenon, an artist without academic qualifications.
“Colors mix in unity. Could we see what is inside a flower if it were to never bloom? How can man realize what is inside of him if he does not open up to his spirt?”

Juana Martínez
