Monica DeSalvo
"We'll Know It When We See It", Abstract, Red, Black, Collage, Mixed Media, 2025

2025

About the Item

Monica DeSalvo’s “We’ll Know It When We See It” is a 12 x 18 abstract collage on pale gray paper with a linen finish. Collage elements include a deconstructed monotype on yellow paper with black and blue markings, a red print remnant, a dark silver metallic paper sample, and a black and white vintage photo from a textbook once belonging to the artist’s late father. The irregular shapes create movement, and there are several interesting details. The metallic paper sample, from a German line of paper, has a thick laid texture and the German writing printed on it translates to “and laid.” The yellow paper has a heavy crease adding interest to the variety of textures. The vintage photo is from a textbook about naval aviation. The signature is on the front. Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe. DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
