For this piece, I applied acrylic gel and pigments on paper. Then I followed with crayon, collaged materials, and oil pigments. Painting is on watercolor paper that has been adhered to a 1.5 inch deep cradled wood panel.
About the Artist
Sharon Sieben prefers working in a loose, fluid technique and finds inspiration in the most unexpected things. Her parents bought her a set of oil paints when she was ten years old and it sparked her love of art. She especially admires the work of Impressionist artists such as Paul Cezanne because of how they broke tradition. When she's not making art, she enjoys reading and playing classical guitar and piano. She currently lives in Arizona.

Sharon Sieben
Prolific contemporary painter Sharon Sieben regards her artistic process as a form of communication, with the viewer and as an inner dialogue with herself. She is known for her Abstract Expressionist paintings that use bold splashes of color and a loose, fluid technique.
Born in Indiana in 1934, Sieben enjoyed a creative childhood, painting and playing music. As an adult, her artistic proclivities were put aside when she focused on a career in manufacturing operations and raising a family.
In later years, Sieben returned to her passion for art. She is largely self-taught, with her inspiration coming from her world travels, in which she learns from fellow artists’ workshops and through viewing the work of Impressionist artists such as Paul Cézanne.
When creating her abstract figurative paintings, nudes and landscapes, Sieben prefers working with oil paint but also incorporates other materials such as acrylics, gouache, charcoal and graphite. Recently, Sieben has explored watercolors, as demonstrated in her contemplative watercolor paintings Moment in the Sun and Depleted.
Sieben’s paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States in galleries and at venues including the New York Expo, the World Showcase of Arts in Las Vegas and the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, Arizona.
She is currently based in Mesa, Arizona, where she continues to create vibrant and imaginative work.

Part of Ryan's long-running series of portraits done in charcoal and oil paint on gold washed paper. Ryan enjoys pairing the fluidity and transparency of oil paint with the substance of charcoal. "Much like the ballet of the same name, "Giselle" combines dramatic patterns with stoic expression," says Ryan. The figure wears an abstract dress of dripping circles, her hair in modernist angles. She looks intensely at the viewer, her slender frame elongated by her strong pose.
