About the Item

Sophie Dumont unveils her artistic mastery through her black oil and collage on canvas painting. Her ability to play with contrasts and nuances lends a captivating depth to the entire composition. The subtlety of color strokes scattered here and there encourages the viewer to engage in a meticulous exploration, inviting a continuous rediscovery of the artwork. At the core of this piece, the artist explores the theme of books by opting for a minimalist approach, favoring a monochromatic graphic construction. This artistic decision highlights a desire to showcase the structure of the painting itself, where texture and shades cleverly combine to suggest the presence of books. The abstraction of black oil books on canvas within a library creates an intriguing atmosphere, prompting in-depth contemplation. The use of indirect lighting plays a crucial role in highlighting the relief of the material, thus accentuating the volumetric effect of the books. Sophie Dumont also explores a color palette, including shades of gray and brown, to enrich the composition and reinforce the realism of the overall piece. This artwork finds its ideal harmony in a clean interior, where it can be displayed on a white wall. It is part of a series dedicated to libraries, emphasizing thematic consistency in the artist's work. The carefully painted edges of the canvas add an elegant finish, and the option of a black or natural wood American box provides aesthetic flexibility for the buyer. In summary, Sophie Dumont's painting transcends simplicity by revealing the subtle complexity of her artistic interpretation of books in a library environment.

AWH 282 - Original Abstract Expressionist Bright Yellow Colorfield Oil Painting
By Bernhard Zimmer
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Bernhard Zimmer produces deeply layered, subtly textured abstract paintings that contain diametrically opposed elements—order and chaos, abstraction and representation, boldness and subtlety—in exquisite tension. Working with oil and mixed media on canvas, he paints in color fields of soft shapes and delicate lines. Grids of diaphanous faces and blocks of illegible text emerge in rich washes of color. Like reliefs, his compositions are built up from numerous layers of material and mark-making. Their surfaces shift with the light and the changing position of the viewer. Full of strength and fragility, Zimmer’s works reward patient viewing, revealing their rich visual nuances to those who take time to delve into their layers. This 43 inch high by 35 inch wide original artwork is created with many layers of mixed media and oil on canvas. This painting is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted as a continuation of the front. It does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the back of the artwork. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Whether figurative or abstract, Zimmer’s artworks inherently alter the feeling of a space. One is absorbed in contemplation as perfectly layered colors and etched hieroglyphic text vibrate from within. Zimmer’s work oscillates between the Geometric Abstraction of Josef Albers and the sublimely layered color fields of Mark Rothko; with added figures that seem to be composed of shadows. This tension between form, color, and text creates canvases with glowing compositions that reverberate with emotion. Bernhard Zimmer was born in 1957 in Stuttgart, Germany. From 1978 to 1984, he completed his education in Cultural Studies at Hildesheim. Zimmer continues to live and work in Cologne. He has exhibited in Hanover, Munich, Dusseldorf, Basel, Gent, Hong Kong, and Singapore to name a few. Zimmer has created a positive stir at major international art fairs such as Art Basel and Kunst Köln. His mysterious compositions pique the taste of the serious art collector. Deep Creek Seeps 10, Minimalist painting inspired by Agnes Martin New Mexico art
By Johnnie Winona Ross
Located in New York, NY
Johnnie Winona Ross Deep Creek Seeps 10, 2007 Oil paint on acrylic base burnished on Belgian linen Signed twice, dated and titled on the verso; also bears the original Stephen Haller Gallery label\ Canvas is stretched against wooden backing but no outer frame This work was originally sold by the Stephen Haller Gallery which hosted several critically acclaimed, sell-out shows of New Mexico resident Johniie Winona Ross, whose exquisite Minimalist aesthetic really took hold with collectors. The debt to famous New Mexico resident and Minimalist goddess Agnes Martin is obvious, but Winona Ross has a disctinctive style and technique of his own. The process of creating this work was laborious: Ross typically applies as many as 90-100 layers of paint to each canvas, then scrapes the surface with a straight-edged razor to reveal the many layers (and their chronology), and finally burnishing the surface with a Pueblo pottery stone to achieve a soft gloss. Maureen Mullarkey of Studio Matters wrote in 2010: THE LOVELINESS OF JOHNNIE WINONA ROSS' paintings elude translation into either reproduction or verbal description. In 2011, ArtDaily published this announcement from Stephen Haller, publicizing a later exhibition: "Washington Post critic Stephen Parks characterized Ross’s work in this way: “From a distance his canvases appear to be simple, minimal constructions of horizontal stripes with hints of vertical color in the background. Up close the paintings are seen to be extraordinarily beautiful and complex objects that induce a humming meditative state.” Ross grounds his work in the inspiration of the desert of the American Southwest, and borrows techniques from ancient Native American sources, melding them with a distinctly sophisticated and utterly contemporary vision. His use of the Native American technique of burnishing pigment and minerals with a potter’s stone to create a hard surface with a visually warm sheen creates an effect reminiscent of the softening of marble steps...
