Dirty Mr. Potato

$5,950

About

Valerie Carmet "Dirty Mr. Potato" Wood, Plexiglass, Vintage, recycled potato heads. 30 x 20 x 4 inches Limited edition: 10 + 2 AP This  multi-colored wall sculpture is part of Valerie Carmet's Pop Art series entitled  “ToyBox Collection: Not For Small Children." Lacquered wooden 3D frame silhouettes are filled with vintage, collectible, plastic, or other collectible toys, each piece is unique and each silhouette comes in a limited edition of 10 + 2 APs signed and numbered by the artist.  Valerie Carmet says, "This Toy Box wall sculpture was created after an article announced that Mr Potato will become gender neutral. Hasbro served a thunderbolt, announcing that Mr Potato Head was going genderless and would be “renaming” its iconic spud brand for gender inclusivity and equality to appeal to modern families. As I am all in favour of equality, I was fascinated by the issue of the "cancel culture movement" that will bring in the name of inclusivity. I keep asking myself : Does a potato really have any gender !? Probably not, but for the fun of it, let's make those genderless potato heads have fun in a branded "Dirty Mr Potato" chips bag and a Flamin' Hot Mrs Potato flavor... " Carmet is a French-American mixed media, Pop Art, Assemblage artist based between Miami and NYC. She has been exhibiting in major art fairs all over the world for the past 15 years. She had many publications and TV appearances and has been collected by public corporations and private collectors. Today, she is represented by several galleries in the States and Europe. In her inspirational Pop Art collection, The ToyBox Collection : Not intended for small children," Valerie describes her approach by saying, “My children’s toys, too sweet and memorable to lose, were gathering dust in a box. I began this series to reflect on my own childhood and realized the importance “play” had in our lives, the psychological effect it had and continues to have on us as adults. I started to “play” with toys in my art and created an outlet for me to discuss controversial issues and express my take on uneasy subjects such as gun violence, war, gender equality, LGTBQIA rights, marriage, mental health, sex…. I hope with my art I can touch my audience in a playful way. I want to give someone of any age, race, gender and background the desire to play again and reflect back on those childhood feelings where emotions were still raw and unstained. I hope they can see the world again with a nonjudgmental spirit, mind, and eyes and then wonder how many things went wrong on so many levels but still feel joyful that the world can be a more inclusive place for everyone."
