Artist Comments
A striking interior scene using a sophisticated pairing of moody grays and blues with fiery oranges. Sunlight pours in through the floor to ceiling windows creating a high contrast with the long shadows."There have been a lot of empty tables at our favorite restaurants this past year. This painting is a tribute to them all," shares artist Elliot Coatney. "So many have struggled mightily or even closed. Dark shadows weigh heavily, but the sun rises on a new day."
About the Artist
Artist Elliot Coatney creates warm, impressionist landscapes inspired by his surroundings in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. He began drawing and painting in watercolor at a young age under the direction of his grandmother, an amateur painter. Throughout his school years, he learned the art trade as a studio assistant for a local painter. Today, he works from a home studio in the mountains with old warped hardwood floors covered in paint splatters. "It's cramped and cluttered, but somehow there's always room for me and my children who love to join me with their paints and brushes and other creative projects," says Elliot. His artwork has been featured in juried shows throughout the southeast, including at the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild.
