This porcelain coffee mug (also perfect as a teacup with handle) is a functional piece of ceramic art, capturing quiet, cozy moments—like resting beside a sideboard filled with vases and flowers, or nestled near a collection of decorative bowls. The surface design features a finely illustrated large Japanese vase with a lush bouquet, alongside an armchair patterned with vintage florals and a cheerful yellow bird, evoking the warmth and charm of an intimate, story-filled interior.
Each mug is wheel-thrown and hand-painted, crafted using a rich layering of underglaze transfers, glaze, overglaze, metallic lusters, and vintage ceramic decals. These materials and techniques come together to create a richly textured, visually striking surface that blends technical precision with narrative whimsy.
Fired to cone 6 in oxidation, with multiple additional low-temperature firings at cone 018, this piece offers both durability and artistic complexity.
This mug is food safe, but due to its metallic luster decoration, it should not be placed in the microwave or dishwasher. For longevity, please gently hand wash with a soft sponge and non-abrasive soap.

Melanie Sherman
Melanie Sherman is a ceramic artist who was born in Germany and currently residing and working in Kansas City, Missouri. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute. Her background is in graphic design, where she developed an eye for pattern and decoration. In her ceramics, she combines her love for ornamentation and her fascination with the history of ceramics, referencing 18th-century European porcelain. Ceramic artist and china painter, Sherman creates beautiful gold plated sterling silver jewelry pieces with porcelain stones. Decorated with vintage decals from Europe and Japan, these one-of-kind pieces tell the story of historic porcelain wares, used as dinnerware in 18th-century Europe.
