About the Item

Episodic / Épisodique consists of the continuation of my most recent photographic production, which explores the possibilities of representing the abstract contemplative sensation witnessed in the presence of open landscapes. My work embodies the symbiotic relation that occurs when the photographic memory translates the human act of reminiscing and encapsulates a sensorial vision more than a descriptive one (interpreting the comings and goings between memory and lapse of memory, between the appearance and the disappearance of a mental image). Episodic / Épisodique sheds a light on recalling vague distant memories of landscapes and hints at the photographic surface itself and how it can carry non-literal visual information. The human episodic memory is then activated and remembers nostalgically certain ambulatory journeys, in which it preserved its atmospheric and emotional impact. My recent artworks explore the photographic possibilities that negate conventional depth of field through the usage of multiple stain glass colored filters and recaptures atmospheric perspective within an earth tone color palette. These semi-abstract landscape photos question the photographic field in terms of how to depict an emotional state instead of a visual documentation of an environment, establishing a parallel with color field painting (avoiding details and emphasizing the unbroken surface of the flat picture plane). The translucent and ghostly colored undulations translate the ephemeral nature of memory, leaving nothing upon the surfaces but a vague and evocative impression of a past moment. Photography now becomes merely a suggestive reductive device, favoring essence over detail in the act of contemplation.
