Yvette Lozano was a famous fashion model in the 1980s and 90s, appearing on the cover of magazines like Vogue. Albert Watson photographed the supermodel in Berlin in 1990. She is sitting in a bathtub immersed in bubbling water. Only her head is visible above the water and beside the running faucet. She is giving the camera a questioning and challenging look. It's not immediately apparent what the image depicts, inviting the viewer to step closer and explore. The black and white shades create a dreamlike atmosphere with a surreal touch. From the iconic Hitchcock series to extravagant shoots for Iris van Herpen, the British star photographer is one of the founding fathers of fine art photography. Throughout the last four decades, Albert Watson has made a name for himself as one of the world's most successful fashion and advertising photographers, creating over 100 Vogue covers. Mick Jagger, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, or David Bowie – Watson has captured the Who's Who. No matter the genre, landscape, portraiture, nudes, or fashion, Watson is always curious and ready to venture into new subject worlds and has remained just as an essential creative force to this day. Albert Watson
Albert Watson studied graphic design before becoming a photographer. His manipulation of contrast and superior sense of composition distinguish his portraits of celebrities and models. With an emphasis on the formal and sculptural properties of his sitters' bodies, Watson's images have not only appeared in numerous American and European fashion magazines but also in museum and gallery exhibitions.
In Watson’s famous nude photographs of Kate Moss taken on her 18th birthday in 1993, the model's spine pokes through the skin of her curved back, like the scales of a dinosaur, while the right side of her body is entirely shaded. In a 1989 portrait, Naomi Campbell's head is silhouetted against a grey surface, while her bare shoulders and the arch of her back are illuminated. In 2010, he was awarded the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship.
