Alex Sher is an award-winning American underwater fine art photographer whose admiration of feminine sensuality heralded him to worldwide acclaim. Sher was born in Ukraine in 1962 and graduated from Kyiv University in 1984. Sher started showing his photographs in early nineties and was considered an emerging artist until one of his pieces was stolen from an exhibition in Kyiv, leading to the epiphany that his works represented a significant value to the public. In 1995 Sher and his family immigrated to the United States where Sher began experimenting with underwater photography evolving from a marine wildlife photographer, to figurative fine art, to monochrome black and white works, and into his latest artistic innovation that weaves together the figurative and the abstract. In 2015 his work began to attract extensive interest. To date, Sher’s work has been exhibited in London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other major cities including the Louvre Museum in Paris. His first solo show was held in 2016 at Los Angeles’s Bruce Lurie Gallery. Since his debut, he has had six exclusive exhibitions, has been in numerous group exhibitions, and has participated in prominent art fairs. In 2018 his first photo book “Mermaids” was published. Sher mastered the profession of underwater coaching teaching his models to control their feelings, breathing, and buoyancy. Bringing forth this spiritual blending with the water and his technical and artistic innovations with the camera, he generously shares his techniques with models and aspiring photographers.

“Ink Stories”, which was introduced at Nyari’s very first solo gallery exhibit, consists of large-scale nude photographs that explore the concept of self-identity and female empowerment. The series joins six women together, each who have faced adversity, to demonstrate the creation of a strengthened self-image through tattoos. By highlighting the intricate woven threads of ink on each woman’s skin, Nyari proposes the idea that self-empowerment and reconciliation with one’s traumas can be linked to the act of greeting one’s “own skin” or inventing their own story. Nyari has now elevated these intimate photographs in her new Punctured Ink series through the process of puncturing botanical-like references into the surface of each image (thus making each one of a kind). Her inspiration to physically puncture the previously pristine photographic prints stemmed from a childhood memory that occurred while she was living in Finland: “I remembered my parents had this big pad of paper next to the home phone...
