ABOUT: Since the early ‘90s, gallerist Robin Rice and designer Antony Todd have maintained an artistic relationship. Now, these two creative minds are connecting again this summer to bring together a classically chic collection of fine art photography that represents a unique and playful confluence of their particular styles.
Beginning June 15th, the walls of ANTONY TODD at 44 East 11th Street will be mosaicked in the distinctive style of Rice’s annual Summertime Salon. Featuring a number of Robin Rice Gallery artists hand-picked by Todd, this range of stunning imagery reflects both of their artistic personalities. This project marks a new and exciting relationship between both visionaries.
Robin Rice is both a renowned fine art photographer and gallerist, with passion for making captivating art accessible. In operation since 1990, The Robin Rice Gallery represents 50 fine art photographers, and has been in consultation with prominent interior design firms and individual and corporate collectors.
Antony Todd is a highly celebrated interior and event designer who has worked with such clients as Chanel, Harry Winston, MoMA, Vogue, and the Chase US Open. He has been previously lauded as the “Master of Chic,” and is one of the most recognizable names in the design industry.
Join us to celebrate the Antony Todd and Robin Rice exhibition on the evening of Wednesday, June 15th, from 6-8pm at 44 East 11th Street, New York, NY, 10003. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and Saturday 12 PM to 5 PM. This exhibition will be displayed through September 4th, 2016.

ABOUT:
In the hazy, warm New York summer, little is more refreshing than reclining on the beach in the mist of the icy ocean waves or enjoying a family trip to the country house. Each summer, Rice curates her favorite show, the Summertime Salon, which reminds us of this exact seasonal sentiment. The two, long walls of the gallery become mosaicked, top to bottom, side to side, in photographs that evoke all the preeminent feelings and memories of summer. Each year, the Summertime Salon matures and Rice’s annual masterpiece comes into fruition. This year is no exception. The show is a haven of what the Robin Rice Gallery stands for, a community of art and experience.
As the largest annual exhibition, the Summertime Salon is carefully pieced together, the results are staggering. The works of the 53 gallery artists come together communally, reinforcing the overall sense of unity that the show creates as a whole. In knowing the photographs so fluently, Rice strategically places them together in a way that will enhance the individual stories contained in each. Details from one image flow from into the next, elevating every photograph in a distinctly unique way.
This year’s invitational image, “Surf Club” by Silvia Lareo-Vasquez, features a woman in a vintage sun hat reclining in the pool with a drink. The black and white image evokes an extreme sense of nostalgia in its cinematic portraiture and supple texture. Though the figure of the woman is tauntingly beautiful, the drink is the darkest tone, nearing black, and is centered in the frame. With this, we are reminded of the refreshing notes of summer and the utter serenity of taking the day off to relax.
The show’s imagery is evocative of all eras of summer, thus any viewer can relate or connect to one of the images. As Rice likes to say, “There’s something for everyone.” One image by Benjamin Heller details a strong owl flying...

ABOUT:
Every year, the gallery owner curates the show to best exemplify the 56 exhibited artists’ strengths and aesthetics, remaining cohesively linked by Robin’s extensive knowledge of her artists and of photography. “This is my favorite exhibit, even though it takes months to curate and a week to install,” says Robin. “It is my curatorial showcase.” From floor to ceiling, the walls of the gallery rooms are a mosaic of nearly a hundred photographs, their various sizes, color schemes and subject matter expertly laid out to fit together like the pieces of an eclectic puzzle.
This year’s invitational image, “Beach Samba” by Patricia Heal, is a portrait of a woman in a large, orange-red sunhat, whose downward gaze obscures her face entirely. Blurring the line between photography and painting, the color palette and uniquely large grain pattern of the photograph is reminiscent of Georges Seurat’s pointillism...
