About the Item
An 11 x 14 black and white print of Buzz Aldrin from the original negative before Nasa added “more” space on the top of the image, which is a more common version of Visor. The 11 x 14 gelatin silver NASA prints were made as gifts especially for VIPs ex: scientists, military, and business people. Much fewer 11 x 14 vintage prints of Visor are circulating today.
Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong's photograph Sun Visor, 1969 is a black and white 11" x 11" (image size), 11" x 14" (sheet size), vintage gelatin silver print with the authentic from the period "A Kodak Paper" watermark on verso (back of photo). Printed: 1969. (It is a vintage because the watermark changed after 1972 and read: "This Paper Manufactured by Kodak.")

Apollo 11 Backstory:
Aldrin has been quoted: "As I walked away from the Eagle lunar module," Aldrin remembered," Neil said, 'Hold it, Buzz.' So I stopped and turned around, and then he took what has become known as the 'Sun Visor' photo. I like this photo because it captures the moment of a solitary figure against the horizon of the moon, along with a reflection in my helmet's visor of our home away from home, the Eagle, and of Neil snapping the photo."
During the first moonwalk mission in 1969, Neil Armstrong with a 70mm Hasselblad camera and 60mm lens captured Apollo 11 fellow astronaut whose first words after Buzz set foot on the Moon: “Beautiful view. Isn’t that something? Magnificent sight out here. Magnificent desolation.”
It was Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) though who was the first person to step onto the lunar surface on this journey and announced humbly to the world that his victory was "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
The Apollo 11 Moonwalk was about exploration, about taking risk for great rewards in science and in engineering – about setting an ambitious goal before the world. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 21 hours 31 minutes on the lunar surface at a site they named Tranquility Base before lifting off to rejoin astronaut Michael Collins in the Columbia in lunar orbit and begin their reentry to Earth...
“A flight to the moon is a long and challenging daisy chain of events," Michael Collins said of the historic mission. "The flight was a question of being under tension and worrying about … what I have to do next to keep the daisy chain in tact. Apollo 11 was serious business. We crew felt the weight of the world on our shoulders. We knew everyone in the world would be looking at us – friend or foe. We wanted to do the best we possibly could, put our best foot forward – that required a great deal of work on our part."

NASA photographs from 1966-75 captured the dusty, rocky, beautiful surfaces of the moon and the lunar experiments conducted by the astronauts. The views of the earth taken from the moon were a scientific and artistic feat, which inspired the popular imagination.
Not only was the achievement of guiding a spacecraft to a lunar destination a miracle of engineering but also the process of photographing and relaying images back to earth was unprecedented technologically.
The Webb Telescope Is a milestone for NASA and space exploration. The deployment of JWST in space on Dec 25, 2021 from French Guyana allows a team of international researchers, using the telescope’s revolutionary hexagonal segments, mirrors, and infrared camera, to survey and study the stars, star clusters, and dust from the beginning of time, the early stages of the universe, at the rocket’s destination Lagrange Point 2 (L2), 1.5 million kilometers from earth. On Jan 24, 2022 JWST arrived and parked itself at L2.

Leonard Freed enjoyed documentary storytelling and as a "concerned photographer" his work demonstrated humanitarian concerns. The photographer travelled to New York, Washington, D.C., and throughout the South, capturing the daily life of African-Americans. Documenting the 1960s Civil Rights Movement from the East Coast to the Deep South, Freed’s photo essay culminated in the book Black in White America, which contributed to Freed's becoming one of the well-known documentary photographers of 20th Century America.
After Freed’s death in 2006 his widow, Brigitte Freed was inspired to compile a book on the March on Washington from her late husband’s archive when she heard then-Senator former President Barack Obama remark to an audience of civil rights activists, “I stand here because you walked.”
The March on Washington series is a powerful visual testimony, capturing protests that culminated in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream'' speech, delivered at the base of the Lincoln Memorial.

Acclaimed for her contemporary depictions, Kuhn is considered a leading artist in the world of figurative discourse. Throughout a career spanning more than twenty years, the underlying theme of her work is her reflection on humanity’s longing for spiritual connection and solidarity. As she solidified her photographic style, Kuhn created a notable approach to the nude by developing friendships with her subjects, and employing a range of playful visual strategies that use natural light and minimalist settings to evoke a sublime sense of comfort between the human figure and its environment. Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, of German descent. In 1989, Kuhn moved to the US and earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Occasionally, Mona teaches at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debuted by Steidl in 2004; followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), Private (2014), and She Disappeared into Complete Silence (2018/19). In addition, Stanley/Barker Editions published Kuhn's Bushes & Succulents in 2018. In 2021, Thames & Hudson published a career retrospective titled Works. Kuhn's most recent publication Kings Road (2022) with Steidl accompanies a multi-dimensional museum traveling exhibition shown in Europe and the US.

Anthony Perkins was the son of the distinguished Broadway actor Osgood Perkins. He won an Academy Award nomination in just his second film, Friendly Persuasion (1956). In 1960, he appeared as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller Psycho, and from then on, Perkins was strongly identified with that one role.
