Gambino Vineyards in Taomina, Sicily is one of the most breathtaking vineyards in Italy. National Geographic did a documentary on the estate, discussing its long history, location on the east side of the Etna Volcano, and how the weather on Mount Etna affects the grapes. Alfano took a fresh perspective of the vineyard creating a glowing landscape of vines with the coolness of evening fog rolling in. His use of infrared film allows him to produce a quiet, serene image filled with abstracted forms due to the change in how the light reflects off of the leaves. Edward Alfano's prints are available in various sizes and frame types. Prints can be framed in a traditional wood frame with a white matte or mounted on aluminum. Aluminum mounted prints are hung with a french cleat. Please inquire if you are interested in a different size.

Edward Alfano
Edward Alfano is a contemporary photographer working in Southern California. Alfano photographs all across the world, his most photographed regions are China, Italy and Huntington Gardens in San Marino. In his photographs of Huntington Gardens, one can see the influence his early university education in biology and plant anatomy had on him as a budding artist. He focused on plant anatomy and ultrastructure as a graduate student, where he learned how to use infrared film, which remained his choice of medium for the remainder of his career. Alfano’s work eludes categorization, while his subject matter is either landscape, architecture or monuments, Alfano’s use of technology, unique perspectives and innovative compositions removes him from the traditional style of photography of such objects and firmly positions his style among the pioneers of surrealism. Alfano utilizes both archaic and modern technology in his practice. Alfano begins by shooting in infrared film, he then develops the film in a traditional darkroom and scans it to produce a digital print of the image.

Off the Grid is the culmination of a six-year photographic journey through Baja, Mexico. Ben Cope and Rowan Daly began their travels in 2014, working their way through the towns of la Salinas, Baja Mar, and Cantamar, down through Ensanada and la Bufadora.
