About the Item
The black-and-white photo depicts a street scene from San Francisco's Chinatown along Grant Avenue, taken in 1962. The image shows traditional Chinese architectural elements, with a multi-tiered pagoda-style building on the left side, adorned with decorative motifs. A sign on the building reads "Cathay House," likely a restaurant or business in the area. Various vintage cars are visible on the street, adding to the historical feel. Lanterns hang across the street, and a "Parking" sign points toward Mary’s Square Garage. The overall atmosphere captures a vibrant yet classic Chinatown scene, illustrating the cultural and architectural uniqueness of the area.
