About the Item

This black-and-white photograph offers a glimpse of the University of California, Berkeley, campus during the 1960s. The iconic Sather Tower, also known as the Campanile, stands proudly in the background, overlooking the bustling campus. In the foreground, a large flag featuring the "ASUC" (Associated Students of the University of California) logo flutters in the breeze, adding a sense of student activism and pride to the scene. A few pedestrians stroll across the campus plaza, while cars line the parking lot, capturing the everyday rhythm of campus life. The photograph encapsulates the atmosphere of an era when UC Berkeley was at the heart of student movements and intellectual exchange. Erich Andres was born in Germany in 1905 and passed away in 1992. He began his career as a photographer in 1920 and was one of the first to use a Leica camera. Today, his work is exhibited in several museums, including the Civil War Museum in Salamanca, Spain, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Industrial Museum in Oberhausen, Germany. In 1951, Andres contributed to Edward Steichen's iconic exhibition "The Family of Man" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This print is available as a Fine Art Print on high-quality paper (Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta) and is produced by Whitewall. It will be shipped carefully in a tube to reduce shipping costs.
