About the Item
The female nude becomes a canvas on which to paint with shadows and light. The curvature of the woman’s body is accentuated by the spiralling circular forms cast over her body. The figure is delineated by the negative space of the black background whilst her bright skin cuts through the gaps in the shadows. This image is signature of Lotus’ style as he plays with light, shadow, and geometric forms to create striking and refined photographs. Lotus often abstracts his figures, as the shapes and forms they create become more important than their features.

Lotus often mixes high fashion with rural or wild surroundings and includes exotic animals in his compositions, using elements that link the rarefied atmosphere of the fashion industry to the organic beauty of the natural world. In 2017, his black and white work was the subject of a monograph, "Shadows & Light" by Gatehouse Publishing.
