Elegant still life photograph by Jesse Frohman that juxtaposes luxury with everyday elements. The image shows a white plate or platter with an ornate silver rim, on which lies a diamond necklace arranged in a graceful curve. In contrast to the luxury of the diamonds, there's what appears to be caviar on a fork and a champagne cork visible in the frame, creating an interesting dialogue between fine dining and fine jewelry.
The composition is characteristically Frohman in its attention to detail and careful balance of elements. The photograph employs a minimal color palette - predominantly white and silver, with the stark black of the caviar creating a striking contrast. The lighting is precise and controlled, making the diamonds sparkle while maintaining the subtle textures of the plate's surface and the cork's natural material.
While earning a degree in economics at the University of Michigan, Jesse Frohman picked up a camera and never put it back down. When he returned home to New York, he had no formal training or experience, but he did have a portfolio of platinum prints, which caught the interest of legendary photographer Irving Penn, who hired Jesse to manage his studio.
It was an incomparable apprenticeship. To the techniques and aesthetics, he leaned from Penn, Jesse added his own sensibilities of strength, dignity and quiet energy, all of which are evident in his pictures. New York based Jesse has photographed countless celebrities and stilllifes. In addition to his work for magazines, advertising, and recording companies, he has been commissioned to create two award-winning photographic books. His works are part of many private collections as well.
