Jesse Frohman
Kurt Cobain - black and white Portrait with Cigarette, Fine Art Photography 1993

1993

About the Item

Black and white Portrait of Kurt Cobain in a hat and Sunglasses holding a Cigarette, photographed by Jesse Frohman in 1993. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. This iconic black and white photograph shows Kurt Cobain wearing round white sunglasses and a beanie hat, smoking a cigarette. He is dressed in a patterned jacket and appears to be posing casually against a plain background. The image captures a distinctive 1990s grunge aesthetic, characterized by the casual pose, fashion choices, and photographic style. While earning a degree in economics at the University of Michigan, Jesse Frohman picked up a camera and never put it back down. When he returned home to New York, he had no formal training or experience, but he did have a portfolio of platinum prints, which caught the interest of legendary photographer Irving Penn, who hired Jesse to manage his studio. It was an incomparable apprenticeship. To the techniques and aesthetics, he leaned from Penn, Jesse added his own sensibilities of strength, dignity and quiet energy, all of which are evident in his pictures. New York based Jesse has photographed countless celebrities and stilllifes. In addition to his work for magazines, advertising, and recording companies, he has been commissioned to create two award-winning photographic books. His works are part of many private collections as well. PREISS FINE ARTS celebrates 15 years of successful collaborations with only the most esteemed photographers and collectors.
