About the Item

Ed. 1/7, rare handmade platinum palladium print. Includes black frame. For years, Joachim Schmeisser has been photographing the last giants of Africa at close range, creating exceptionally intimate portraits of species threatened with extinction. His striking images are timeless works that can be interpreted on different levels: as depictions of a distant past or as iconic memories in a not too distant future in which we can only admire these majestic creatures in zoos. They are both an homage and a final warning – visual revelations that sharpen our clouded view of nature in all its infinite complexity as well as recognizing what treasures we might irretrievably lose. With his breathtaking black-and-white images, Schmeisser brings us up close to these extraordinary animals, creating a powerful document of nature’s splendor and fragility. This work is an incredibly special, handmade platinum palladium print that is available only as a limited edition of 7.

You Can Have Whatever You Can Dream Of
By Guadalupe Laiz
Located in New York, NY
Ed. 2/12, signed on the recto, includes black frame. Guadalupe Laiz is an international artist, photographer and explorer born and raised in Argentina. Guadalupe’s main focus for the past ten years has been an extensive body of work capturing the beauty and uniqueness of the indigenous horses of Iceland, a country that has touched her deeply and continues to visit. Her work “Horses of Iceland” has been shown in exhibitions all over the world. This photograph is from her newest series "Among the Living." For this body of work, Laiz traveled across the African continent for six years, visiting Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Batswana, Rwanda, and Uganda. Forgoing comfort often for months at a time, she returned with intimate portraits of the charismatic and fierce, yet vulnerable and endangered animals she encountered. It is impossible to look at one of her photographs and not feel her subject’s innate individuality. As part of her artistic process, she spends time with each animal up close in its natural habitat, gets to know...
