Yeshiva Boys, 1954 is a black-and-white photograph of two young studious boys behind a glass door, an entrance to a Brooklyn brownstone in New York City. A gelatin silver lifetime print, 15.5” x 12" (sheet size) is a signed photograph on verso (back of photo) by the photographer.
Leonard Freed's photographic career led him to document many subjects from the 1950s-2006, including photographing the Jewish diaspora in the US, Europe, and the Middle East. Considered one of the important documentary photographers of the 20th Century, Freed remains a 21st Century master at photographic storytelling.

Artist’s Bio:
Leonard Freed (1929-2006) was an American photographer from Brooklyn, New York. His "Black in White America" series made him known as a documentarian, a social documentary photographer. Freed worked as a freelance photographer from 1961 onwards and as a Magnum photographer Freed traveled widely abroad and, in the US, photographing African Americans (1964-65), events in Israel (1967-68, 1973), and the New York City police department (1972-79). Freed's coverage of the American civil rights movement is well-known as are his photo essays on New York, Italy, Germany, The Kate Series, among others.

Leonard Freed
Leonard Freed was born on October 23, 1929, in Brooklyn. Although Freed's photographic career is defined by documentary photo essays, such as Black in White America, Freed traveled extensively and captured people, places and things that interested him in locations around the globe. A Magnum photographer, Freed traveled widely, photographing African Americans in America from 1964–65, events in Israel from 1967–68 and in 1973 and the New York City police department from 1972–79, to name a few celebrated assignments. Freed’s coverage of the American civil rights movement made him famous, although he continued to produce photo essays on New York, Italians and many other subjects. Leonard Freed worked as a freelance photographer from 1961 until his death on November 29, 2006, Philipstown.
