By his early twenties, he was hailed as “Color Photography’s Wonder Boy,” with his work appearing in major publications such as Life, Look, Harper’s Bazaar, Town & Country, and Vogue. Alongside contemporaries like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, Greene helped elevate fashion photography into a recognized art form. While Greene was celebrated for his fashion photography, his iconic portraits of celebrities — including Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, and especially Marilyn Monroe — are what cemented his legacy. His intimate friendship and professional partnership with Monroe led to some of the most enduring and personal images of the star, capturing her natural elegance and vulnerability. Greene’s ability to reveal the true essence of his subjects through rapport and timing made his work both timeless and deeply human.
