About the Item

Closeup black and white portrait of the famous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, photographed by Nigel Parry in 1990. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. Luciano Pavarotti (*1935 in Modena; †2007 in Modena) was an Italian opera singer. He is recognized beyond the world of opera and classical music as one of the most important tenors of all time. As a member of the Three Tenors and as a duet partner to many pop singers, Pavarotti became a superstar. He used his fame for many charity concerts. Nigel Parry photographed Pavarotti in 1990. The black and white portrait is a closeup of the singer's face. His head is tilted down slightly as he looks directly at the camera. His hand is resting on his chin in a gesture of deep thought. The image's stark black-and-white contrast underlines the singer's intense expression, creating a captivating image. Leonardo DiCaprio spilling a glass of fine whiskey directly at the viewer or Bill Clinton tilting his head with a look of presidential gravity – Nigel Parry’s portraits of celebrities and influential figures always show more than their image. A regular at high-profile magazines, such as The New York Times Magazine or Vanity Fair, Parry manages the impossible by making star shootings appear candid. Recently, Parry has ventured into landscape photography. Bordering on the impressionistic, his tranquil meditations on nature are as captivating as his portraits.

Luciano Pavarotti (Edition of 100) - 20"x24"
By Dan Springer
Located in New York, NY
This 2013 fine art print caricature, is legend opera star Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007), the most commercially successful tenor of all time, holding the honorific title "King of the High Cs". This caricature was created by artist Dan Springer and shows the maestro singing, mouth wide open, hitting the highest notes in Opera on a Red-Maroon. It was mastered from the original drawing in high resolution digital format and reproduced in a numbered-edition series, on fine art archival pigment paper. Dan’s focus is to elevate the personalities of iconic celebrities by using exaggerations of some of their physical characteristics and also an oversimplification of others. Dan Springer states: “There’s the character and then the caricature. If it’s a celebrity, there’s always a persona that’s a caricature outside of who the celebrity is but in different layers. My goal is to bring out those layers of the character, in a caricature format that is defined by their facial image and their eccentricities.” Dan Springer received his formal art training at the Rhode Island School of Design where he received his BFA in Illustration in 1991. Since then, he has done freelance illustration for various publications including "The New York Times", "The Village Voice", and "Avenue" magazine. He started his fine art career in 1996 when he founded the "4E Gallery" in Tribeca where he and his partner showed various artists, as well as their own work every month. He also showed at numerous galleries and clubs, including the "Ace Gallery", the "Gershwin Gallery", "The Tunnel" and "Faces and Names", (161 W. 54th St.), and "Rumours" (8th Ave. & 55th St.) where he has a permanent exhibition. He has also done live caricatures at "Faces and Names" since they opened in 1997. He has worked as a caricature artist since 1991, including work at Six Flags...
