Fine black and white photograph by noted American photographer Richard Blair. Richard Blair has been in a photographic frenzy for most of his adult life. Born in New York City in 1948, he has been a professional photographer since 1967 when he moved to California.
This photograph shows a Chinese man reading the headlines of a paper in the window of the Daily News in Chinatown located at 117 Waverly Place in San Francisco's Chinatown.
In 1924 Walter U. Lum founded the Chinese Times newspaper, written in Chinese, and referred by some as the first Chinese language newspaper in the United States. By 1929, Chinese Times had the highest circulation among the Chinese newspapers in San Francisco. For thirty-five years, Lum served as the editor, managing editor, vice president, and president of the Chinese Times Publishing Company.
This is a rare 1970s photograph of by a very talented American photographer.
