UNIQUE PRINT SILVER GELATIN - silver gelatin print mounted on diebond and framed in black frame.
THE MONTE-CARLO SERIES (1980), Early works from 1980, Executed in 2011. Shot in abandoned 19th century villas in and around Monaco and Monte-Carlo between 1980 and 1982, the photographs feature young women in the artist's intimate circle of friends playfully posing in eccentric vintage attire. Shabelewska captures a juxtaposition of space and form with a sense of playfulness resulting in images that are provocative and flirtatious. In 2011, 12 photographs from the series of 24 were presented for the first time at Soufer Gallery on Madison Avenue in New York, curated by Director Rozita Shay with the support of the Consulate General of Monaco. The complete series is comprised of 24 images. All silver gelatin prints, framed in black wooden frames. Unique edition in large format © silas shabelewska, all rights reserved.

Silas Shabelewska
Silas Shabelewska was born and raised in Monaco in 1963. A Polish-American Shabelewska has practiced photography since the age of 14. At 16, she learned the process of analog photography and silver gelatin printing. In 1984, Shabelewska enrolled at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where she majored in photography, film and video. Since the late ’80s, Shabelewska has worked predominantly in photography and has photographed art world personalities such as Leo Castelli and Helmut Newton in Monte-Carlo in 1995. Her solo shows include “The Vermeer Series” at Soufer Gallery in New York, “Roads America” at Björn Ressle Fine Art in New York, “Roads” at Gallery Kayafas in Boston, “Roads” at Briggs Robinson Gallery at Soho House in New York, “Silas Shabelewska” at Patrick Verelst Gallery in Antwerp and PEACE & LOVE at Soufer Gallery in New York. Her work has also been showcased in many group exhibitions in Washington, DC, Miami, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Fort Lauderdale, Corpus Christi and Antwerp, Belgium. She lives and works in Indiana with her husband, Norwegian-born artist Andre von Morisse.
