About the Item
A cowboy in contemplative pose in front of a saguaro cactus. The man is wearing a stetson hat and smoking a pipe. The image evokes the solitude of life on the plains and seems to emphasize the sheer size of the environment.
The saguaro is a tree-like cactus species in the monotypic genus Carnegiea that can grow to be over 12 meters tall. It is native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, the Mexican state of Sonora, and the Whipple Mountains and Imperial County areas of California.
Stuart Redler’s black and white images use bold contrast to emphasize both structure and emotion.
The tones of his archival prints are beautifully nuanced and rich.
