About the Item
Vintage Silver Gelatin Print of a Mushroom by Alexander Lowry
High-contrast silver gelatin print showing the underside of a mushroom on the forest floor by Alexander Lowry (1937-2010). The gills of the mushroom are detailed and in focus, while the leaf litter and tree trunk surrounding it are slightly blurry. The gills of the mushroom provide a sense of pattern and movement. The composition is simple and balanced, with the mushroom occupying the central space. Alexander Lowry was a photographer who taught photography workshops through UC Santa Cruz Extension and photojournalism at Cabrillo College. He was the first staff photographer at UCSC, and he published several books of local landscape photography.
Signed but "Alexander Lowry" in bottom right corner. Dated '67.
