About the Item
These photographs are printed on archival pigment paper and encased in resin. They are part of a diptych, and are placed in a white float frame, placed two inches apart.
They are a part of a limited edition of 8 and 2 artist proofs, all sizes included.
Each panel is available in four sizes,
100 x 80 cm (39.5 x 31.5 inches unframed), 120 x 100 cm (47 x 39.5 inches unframed), 150 x 125 cm (71 x 59 inches unframed), 180 x 150 cm (71 x 59 inches unframed).
After a career of more than 30 years in the research of textures (20 years as a textile stylist and 10 years as interior design architect), Didier Engels has shifted towards photography. As a self-taught Belgian photographer, he started his photographic work "Dry Dock" and "Kaaien" in January 2015.
One of the main features of his work on piers and containers is to divert visuals that are essentially graphic and colored. In order to give them a more artistic dimension, he removes all peripheral elements other than the subject itself. The arrangement of colors of the containers are those of the original shot. The "diversion", or particular framing of the containers in post-production, enhances the existing graphic design and positions the subject as the main element.
The idea is to create confusion and challenge the viewer, who presumably will not have seen the original photo. The eye will be drawn first by the colors, the alignments and the graphic nature of the image. It is only afterwards that the eye will perceive the underlying element, namely, the container or boat hull. His work extends, during his exhibitions, into discussions with the visitors and the chance to explain the before and after of the works.

Azalea Bloom I
By Liz Barber
Located in Westport, CT
Liz Barber's organic abstract paintings are layered bursts of energy inspired by nature’s movement. Forms and lines fall into a sea of emotion. Shapes and reflections drift into volumetric configurations.
She pours colors onto the canvas and watches what happens. Intuitively, she then edits.
Barber uses a form of mixed media which allows for more creative freedom and gives the materials a voice.
The most common reoccurring theme in Barber’s work is the ocean or natural elements and forms. The shapes serve as anchors for the mind to stop and reflect upon. They can be ambiguous or recognizable forms based on what the viewer brings to the piece.
Barber leans towards distinctive color palettes at certain times of the year as the seasons change. They are either subtle or intense color interaction...
