About the Item
June 16th marked the 55-year anniversary of Monterey Pop Festival, remembered for the first major appearances of Jimi Hendrix, the Who and Ravi Shankar, the first large-scale performance of Janis Joplin and the introduction of Otis Redding to a mass American audience. The festival is regarded as the beginning of the “Summer of Love” in 1967 and the public debut of the Hippie, Flower Power and Flower Children movements and era. Monterey Pop Festival set up the template for Woodstock and Altamont and every major rock music festival afterwards, it was groundbreaking and historic!
There to photograph it all was Jill Gibson, who over the three-day period photographed nearly every act, and her shots of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, and others have been published around the world. Her iconic image of Jimi Hendrix graced the front cover of the Rolling Stone Magazine.
This limited-edition fine art print by Jill Gibson, showcases this iconic photo of Jimi Hendrix. Jill personally signed and numbered this piece of Music History! Edition 81/100.
The lucky collector will also receive a re-print of the cover of the Rolling Stone Magazine.
