About the Item
With great wit and sensuous color, Julie Mack's work allows us to share in the awkward moments her family experiences before her large-format camera with long exposures, providing an affectionate and humorous study of her typical American family. This particular image has been exhibited in group shows at the Kohler Arts Center in Wisconsin, the Weatherspoon Art Gallery at UNC Greensboro, the Addison Gallery of Art in Massachusetts, and at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, which includes this work in its permanent collection.
Julie Mack was born in 1982 and raised in the Detroit suburbs. In 2005, she graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York, where she was awarded "Best in Show." In 2007, she had her first solo gallery show in New York City. In 2009, she was short-listed for that year's BMW-Paris Photo Prize for Contemporary Photography. Her work has been included in travelling exhibitions at the institutions listed above from 2012 to the present.
