About the Item
The work is the result of a live guitar improvisation where Krag wore a special suit to paint the instrument while playing it. The body of the guitar got splashes of paint by the movement of the fingers, the neck was filled with paint to mark the bends on the strings. Melo Magenta follows the tradition of musicians such Jimi Hendrix who painted his instrument himself using nail polish, or Keith Richards who decorated his guitar using paint pens, although they did not do this during a performance. This experience integrates Krag’s passion for music and art.
Photography helps Kevin Krag to freeze in time his one-of-a-kind sculptures capturing the spiritual dimension, vulnerability, and mortality of his ephemeral pieces. Using ethically sourced archival photography cotton paper integrates another organic and sensual piece to the puzzle, standing the test of time and having the least possible adverse impact on the environment. Working across different media, his productions incorporate nature in a controlled and ritualistic manner, often focusing on life and death, sound and silence, feminine and masculine. For Krag, a guitar is a tool to create an encounter with nature, to spark a dialogue about beauty, to reveal the rapture of a silent music score. Pushing physical limits with the works —by adhering paint or plants or submerging guitars underwater — is part of a personal process that rushes spiritual and emotional limits to discover his sense of self.

Photography helps Kevin Krag to freeze in time he's one-of-a-kind sculptures capture the spiritual dimension, vulnerability, and mortality of his ephemeral pieces. Using ethically sourced archival photography cotton paper integrates another organic and sensual piece to the puzzle, standing the test of time and having the least possible adverse impact on the environment. For this body of works, Krag incorporates live and dry flowers,
vines, moss, air plants, and ocean driftwood create botanical
instruments that seem to touch on contrasting themes of vitality
and decay. He creates breathing and dying objects deeply
connected to the passing of time, stilled lives contemplating
mortality and the brevity of beauty and life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin Krag grew up surrounded by music, having a father in the
music business and an uncle musician. From a very young age, he
displayed a strong predilection for music and soon became a
passionate guitar player and an avid collector of the instrument.
In 2012, he moved to Miami, where he developed a practice that
incorporates the activities of an artist, a musician, a fetishist, and
a scientist. Working across different media, his productions
incorporate nature in a controlled and ritualistic manner, often
focusing on life and death, sound and silence, feminine and
masculine. For Krag, a guitar is a tool to create an encounter
with nature, to spark a dialogue about beauty, to reveal the
rapture of a silent music score. Pushing physical limits with the
works —by adhering to paint or plants or submerging guitars
underwater — is part of a personal process that rushes spiritual
and emotional limits to discover his sense of self.
Born in 1984, Kevin Krag graduated in Business Administration
in his native city Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is based in Miami,
where he has worked extensively and developed his identity as
an artist and musician.

Assembled guitars bodies & necks from rescued guitars (built by the artist)
Creating the Ícara I was like an initiation. the work contains about 800 feathers and it has a very rock and roll feel as it reminds us of Lenny Kravitz’s love for feathers and boas. It also explores a rite of passage: leaving Buenos Aires, its music, its flavors and ultimately a remembrance, an homage to a dear Argentine singer-songwriter Gustavo Cerati...
