About the Item
The early 1970s was a period of reexamination of the state of photography for Mitchell Funk. He broke with the tradition of shooting gritty street photography in black and white and did it in color. The technique and the subject matter work together in Funk's color street photography it brings a sense of realism to any already very real subject and engages the viewer. In the 1970s, New York City was very different, with skid rows and homeless in many parts of Manhattan. Signed dated and numbered 2/15 lower right recto, other sizes available, unframed. printed later, This work is printed on fine art Hahnemuhle paper. The color will vary from monitor to monitor.

Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
